Tignes
Nestled high in the Tarentaise Valley of the Rhône Alpes region in south eastern France, Tignes is one of the most snow sure ski resorts in all of Europe. Situated at 2,100 metres above sea level with skiing well above 3,000m, it offers consistently snow covered slopes even when lower altitude resorts are struggling with conditions. Together with its neighbour, Val d’Isère, it forms the world-famous Tignes-Val d’Isere ski area, one of the finest in Europe.
Rather than a single resort town, Tignes is made up of five distinct villages: Val Claret, Tignes le Lac, Le Lavachet, Tignes Les Boisses, and Tignes-les-Brevieres. The first three sit high at 2,100 metres, while the latter two lie further down the valley. Each has its own unique atmosphere and charm, from the lively buzz of Val Claret to the more traditional alpine feel of Les Brévières. Exploring all five during your ski holiday in Tignes is highly recommended, whether you’re stopping for a warming drink or simply taking in the views.
With 300 kilometres of pistes, over half of which are green and blue, Tignes Ski Resort is perfect for families and mixed ability groups. The resort offers four dedicated nursery slope areas in Val Claret, Tignes le Lac, Tignes Le Lavachet, and Tignes Les Brevieres, making it ideal for beginners learning to ski.
Intermediate and expert skiers will find endless variety and challenge, from the thrilling slopes of L’Aiguille Percée (2,748m) to the world renowned Grande Motte Glacier, which can be reached directly from Val Claret. The high altitude glacier ensures excellent snow conditions and breathtaking panoramic views all season long.
When the skiing ends, après ski in Tignes is just getting started. The resort offers a lively and diverse après ski scene with something for everyone. La Folie Douce in nearby Val d’Isère is one of the most famous après ski venues in the Alps, known for its high energy open-air parties and live performances. But not to be overlooked is the excellent Cocorico bar in Tignes Val Claret which brings the party closer to home allowing guests to head straight from après to their Luxury ski hotel or chalet.
