Selva Val Gardena

Located deep in the spectacular Italian Dolomites, Selva Val Gardena is a picturesque alpine village known for its superb skiing and breathtaking mountain scenery. The resort is sometimes referred to simply as Selva, Selva Gardena, or by its historic German name Wolkenstein, reflecting the region’s fascinating cultural heritage.

As the highest of the three villages in Val Gardena, Selva enjoys a prime position within the ski area and offers direct access to both the legendary Sella Ronda circuit and the vast Dolomiti Superski network. This immense ski domain spans around 1,200 kilometres of pistes, making it the largest by total area in Europe. Impressively, roughly 500 kilometres of these slopes can be explored without ever needing to step on a bus.

Selva itself blends Italian flair with traditional Tyrolean character, a legacy of the region’s time under Austrian rule. The result is a welcoming mountain village that feels both authentic and family friendly, while still offering all the comforts expected of a luxury ski destination.

The terrain in Selva is particularly appealing for intermediate skiers, who will find an abundance of long cruising runs and scenic tree-lined pistes. With 67 red runs, there is plenty of varied terrain to keep confident skiers entertained throughout the week.

A day on the slopes in Val Gardena would not be complete without enjoying the region’s excellent mountain restaurants. Scattered across the ski area are charming alpine huts and stylish restaurants serving both traditional South Tyrolean dishes and classic Italian cuisine.

The area’s culinary heritage reflects its Alpine and Austrian influences, meaning menus often feature hearty mountain favourites alongside lighter Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Many of these restaurants enjoy spectacular terrace views across the Dolomite peaks, making them ideal for a relaxed and memorable lunch during your ski day.

Whether visiting for the skiing, the scenery or the exceptional mountain cuisine, Selva Val Gardena remains one of the most charming and rewarding destinations for a luxury ski holiday in the Dolomites.
